Objectives
The HealthCheck for ASE and Replication Server Service Package is designed to assess the architecture, configuration and operating environment of your ASE and Replication Server deployment so you can attain a high-performing implementation based on best practices. Working closely with your staff, Sybase consultants will explore production systems to determine if the installed Sybase products are leveraged for their best use.
The effort for this service includes activities that Review, Assess and Recommend Improvements.
- Review — a review of ASE and Replication Server architecture, configuration, infrastructure and performance,
- Assess — a detailed analysis of the ASE and Replication Server environment, system monitoring and operation,
- Recommend — resulting in documented findings and recommendations.
Depending on customer level of expertise and availability of staff to implement recommendations derived from the delivery of this package, Sybase is available to assist with the implementation of either a subset or the full series of recommendations. This service package also has an education bundle that you may choose to include.
High-Level Activities
- Perform a "HealthCheck" of the targeted ASE and Replication Server installation to determine the current state of Sybase server performance, as well as identify potential issues and limitations
- Provide mentorship to the DBA staff in the areas of performance, tuning and best practices for ASE and Replication Server implementations, document findings and recommendations; provide a roadmap for implementing the recommendations.

Sybase staff will conduct a review of the ASE and Replication system architecture and assess the detailed configuration of the infrastructure related to:
- Operating system, patch levels and kernel settings
- Current hardware and hardware upgrade plans
- Current ASE and Replication Server version and patch levels
- Storage configuration (file systems/raw devices and striping)
- Network considerations
- ASE and Replication Server configuration
- Identifying needs that may now be addressed by ASE product enhancements for performance, operations, and security.
Included is a review of ASE performance data, including:
- general “server-wide” performance statistics,
- object-level statistics from the mda tables,
- meta cache information for internal configuration,
- memory caches information (size, pools, objects bound)
- spid task migration, and
- Replication Server monitors and counters over a 24 hour period

Detailed evaluation of ASE and Replication Server environment
|
Sybase Consultants will perform a detailed evaluation of the ASE and Replication Server environment based on the above review. The detailed findings and recommendations will be documented and validated with project stakeholders.
