Introducing IvanAnywhere
IvanAnywhere is a telepresence robot that allows a remote Sybase iAnywhere employee, Ivan Bowman, to teleconference to the Waterloo, Ontario, office via a moving base. The robot employs SQL Anywhere to monitor its status, including the battery, driving, pan, tilt usage and when proximity sensors slow IvanAnywhere down.
IvanAnywhere’s mobility has helped Bowman overcome many common communication issues. He can now attend team status meetings and monitor participants’ attention levels. IvanAnywhere also allows Bowman to check colleagues’ availability before initiating a conversation. Finally, the robot allows him to participate in social discussions at the office, which helps form and maintain links with the rest of the team.
