TechWave 2011: It's All About Developers
This year’s TechWave event made me nostalgic for the PowerSoft User Conferences. The event was co-located with SAP’s TechEd Conference in Las Vegas, and the vibe, the energy, and the excitement permeated the atmosphere. It was all about developers again. PowerBuilder developers came in droves, 70% more of you attended this year than last year! And, our own Ronnie Po won the SAP Demo Jam. TechWave 2011 – A Resurgent Interest in PowerBuilder
Sybase TechWave 2011 has come and gone and I’ve had a chance to reflect on this year’s conference. This was my 18th consecutive Powersoft/Sybase conference and it was great to be back in Las Vegas again after a two year break. Read more.

Those Darn (Impressive) Canadian Feds
June saw me heading north again to Ottawa. In addition to presenting PowerBuilder 12.5 to the OSUG, I once again met with Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) as well as with Passport Canada to discuss product roadmap and make recommendations for near-/medium-/long-term use of extant and upcoming PowerBuilder (and partner product) capabilities. I just have to say that I have to shake my head in something just short of awe when I see how different segments of the Canadian government create bullet-proof, robust, beyond-impressive solutions with PowerBuilder that are up and running 24/7. ..maybe it’s something in the water. Stunning PowerBuilder Application Rocks SAP TechEd Demo Jam!
One of the most exciting PowerBuilder highlights of TechWave/TechEd 2011 was the technology showcase competition called Demo Jam. During the summer, over 100 SAP and Sybase customers, partners and employees submitted proposals to demo their innovative technologies or applications at Demo Jam. From these entries, the Demo Jam committee selected 7 finalists to compete live on center stage, in the massive Palazzo Ballroom, in front of thousands of Sybase and SAP customers and executives. Finalists were given just 6 minutes to present live demos to the audience and vie for the loudest audience response. Noise meters measured the audience applause for each finalist. Read more.
