The HP-Sybase IQ for Carrier Analytics solution

Make decisions and react in real time to deliver the best customer experience.
Telecom operators have traditionally operated with a complex, disparate set of data silos, where useful information resides in customer relationship management, billing, inventory, provisioning, fulfillment, and service management systems, including network elements, application-specific databases, and elsewhere. Just extracting the data from individual point solutions has historically been challenging to do in real time, let alone getting real-time analysis to identify important patterns across and between those sources.

Advanced analytics becomes very potent in the context of such 4G services as assigning probability to future events, predicting future value on service launch and profitability, and catalyzing advanced customer segmentation. All play a very critical role in ensuring service provider profitability.

The Sybase Carrier Analytics solution combines the Sybase CEP suite of products for analyzing high volumes of live data streams contained in low-latency systems, such as routers and network elements, with operational systems and historical data repositories where Sybase IQ in-database analytics performs processing within seconds. The real-time aspect of this solution enables a new approach to deriving intelligence that supports delivery activities in a 4G environment that includes cell-site optimization, intelligent wireless offload, and visibility for new product rollouts.

Sybase IQ on HP servers combines faster query response and faster data loads with reduced overhead, reduced storage costs and lower maintenance requirements. Blending mission-critical and industry-standard design principles, the HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server with HP PREMA Architecture features the latest eight-core Intel®Xeon®processors, designed with balanced scalability, self-healing resiliency, and breakthrough efficiencies to deploy Sybase CEP and Sybase IQ for the largest and most demanding Linux workloads.

For large carriers where Call Detail Records (CDR) approach 40K/sec., the HP Superdome 2 with the HP-UX operating system pioneers a new category of modular systems that scale up, out, and within to deploy Sybase IQ on a common mission-critical platform. Engineered with trusted Superdome reliability, Superdome 2 includes a modular, bladed design, common components, and standard racks. Superdome 2 also includes a common server management framework that is supported from x86 to Superdome.

In an era of 4G, it is critical for service providers to make informed decisions based on their subscribers’ context and usage information. Real-time data and analytics will play a pivotal role in helping service providers not only process and correlate event stream processing, but also use advanced analytics modeling techniques to gain the best insight into customer behavior.
With Sybase analytics, carriers have more power, more flexibility, and greater manageability to meet their most demanding analytics needs. Combined with the industry leadership of HP servers, Sybase IQ enables a new generation of analytics capability for today's operator challenges.
