Orange, a U.K. based telecommunication service provider with presence in 166 countries, serves one million businesses with mobile solutions. The company is setting itself apart from its competitors by offering a new and enriched experience for its customers. Orange introduced an attractive "amateur filmmaking" option delivered to its wireless customers through their mobile devices. Sybase 365 was instrumental in extending the MMS connectivity between customers and Orange, resulting in a smooth exchange of video and web content.

Orange Users Explore Amateur Filmmaking 
Orange realized that in order to prove different from other competing service providers, they have to offer customers a unique solution to their latent needs. In doing so, Orange sought to engage with their wireless customers, enabling them to experiment with the latest features available on their mobile phones and to have some fun trying their hand at amateur filmmaking. For those who can record video on their mobile phones and are of a creative nature, Orange offered the Orange Paper Film Festival. Participants used their phones to create a 60-second movie, featuring characters either downloaded and printed off the Web site (http://www.paperfilms.co.uk/) or obtained from their local Orange shop.

Once a participant shot a video and sent it to Orange, they were granted access to an online video editing suite, called "Paper Cut," to add the finishing touches. A panel of experts chose the five best directors, who were then invited to a star studded film premiere where the finalists' entries were screened. Sybase 365 rapidly deployed a very complex service to Orange utilizing Sybase 365's robust messaging network, application platform, and content management platform—everything that Orange needed—because Sybase 365 manages end-to-end delivery of service and relies on no third parties.

Sybase 365 supplied the MMS connectivity and short code, via which participants could text "MOVIE" to 83118 and receive an example of a mini masterpiece, as well as a Web interface with which Orange was able to set up, monitor, and report on the statistics of the film festival. The whole event was a grand success which gave Orange the required impetus to be a differentiator in the already crowded telecommunication market.
