Caser Seguros Centralizes Entire Business Information System with Sybase IQ
The Caser Group has more than 65 years experience operating in the Spanish insurance market. At the end of last year, the company had a revenue stream of USD $4 million, of which USD $3 million were derived from activities in the insurance market. The company is recognized for its client focus, quality of service and the breadth of its distribution network. Caser offers competitive solutions tailored to the needs of its clients through over 20,000 sales locations across Spain.

On a daily basis, Caser generates and processes a large, and continually expanding volume of data. This information relates to the management of policies, the collection and processing of premiums, and claims handling in each of the markets in which the company operates.

Following the legal integration of the organizations that were brought together to form Grupo Caser, the company found itself with multiple information systems. Each of the companies acquired during the growth phase of the business had its own separate applications and databases. Caser decided to bring all the data together in a centrally managed information system.

To accomplish this, the company needed a unique system able to extract data from multiple systems and transfer it to a single repository. The central information repository had to be capable of aggregating all the information so that the company would know precisely what was happening throughout each of its businesses at any moment in time. The information has to be constantly updated and made available throughout the expanded organization.

Creating a Vital Repository
The insurance company set out to create a system able to administer and process all the information generated across all its different lines of business. The system must have the capacity to handle massive increases in data, ensure accurate processing and apply effective management across the entire spectrum of activity.

Caser decided to implement Sybase IQ as its analytics server, to accommodate and process all Caser’s business information and to deliver extensive and exhaustive analysis, providing a comprehensive understanding of any particular situation. With the implementation of Sybase IQ, Caser has achieved its goal of centralizing information systems. The Sybase IQ system is able to extract information generated by the many different transactional systems (policy management, premium collection and claims handling). Once filtered, cleaned and optimized – the information is then loaded into Sybase IQ. The architecture comprises a data warehouse holding comprehensive information from across all insurance business lines, beneath which are established specific data marts. The creation of different views of business information within the data marts, allows the new architecture to serve the information needs of the many different market segments and business activities of the Caser Group – from commercial and health insurance to the pursuit of marketing campaigns and policy processing.

Centralizing and Standardizing
Caser has a diverse range of users, spread across the different lines of business and across many departmental functions.  To meet the needs of these varied users, the company set a goal to simplify management of information across its entire business organization, and the removal of all obstacles preventing such information from being readily available to all users. 

The deployment of Sybase IQ has enabled Caser to centralize information, standardize its presentation and employ a consistent means of access. The company not only guarantees the availability of data, but also ensures that each user can access precisely the information required. This reduces the number of inquiries and requests, and ensures consistency of information across the organization. As a result of using Sybase IQ, Caser is able to deliver unstructured queries quickly and provide information analysis regardless of the nature of the requesting user (whether from actuarial, marketing, commercial or any other department).
