ASE Replicator or MobiLink - SQL Anywhere Studio 9.0.x Deployment IBM-AIX

SQL Remote ASE was originally developed to provide bi-directional synchronization between Adaptive Server Anywhere (ASA) and Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) databases. Since the introduction of SQL Remote ASE, iAnywhere has subsequently developed a much more flexible, powerful, and easy-to-use technology called MobiLink that provides bi-directional synchronization between ASA/UltraLite clients and various back-end databases including ASE. MobiLink is a proven, robust, and scalable technology optimized for both wired and wireless communications. The following comprehensive whitepaper has been written to assist you in the migration process from SQL Remote ASE to MobiLink: http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1034174.

As an alternative migration path, ASE Replicator can be used for those customers who have used SQL Remote ASE for basic replication between multiple ASE databases. ASE Replicator is a feature of Adaptive Server Enterprise that provides basic replication from an Adaptive Server primary database to one or more Adaptive Server replicate databases. It provides the following replication system functionality:

  • Manages replication system objects and database objects with a simple publish-and-subscribe model
  • Replicates both data-changing operations on tables and invocations of stored procedures
  • Supports bi-directional replication, filtering out replicated transactions
  • Maintains database integrity and transactional consistency
  • Provides guaranteed delivery of replicated transactions

For more information about ASE Replicator, please consult the User Manual in the following link: http://manuals.sybase.com/onlinebooks/group-as/asg1252e/rl1252ug.

Sybase encourages you to begin migration plans as soon as possible to migrate before the end of engineering support to the supported product(s) identified in the "Migration Path" column as shown in the table above.

For customers with current Support Agreements who have elected not to migrate to a new product by the end of engineering support, continued limited technical support assistance will be made available, subject to the availability of resources. This limited assistance after the end of engineering support consists of providing existing interim releases (i.e.; updates, if any, developed for the product prior to the end of engineering support), telephone and electronic assistance, and migration advice to customers migrating to Sybase supported products. It does not include engineering support, new bug fixes or integration of any bug fixes into previous updates.

If you have any questions, please call your local Sybase Technical Support Center. One of our Customer Service representatives will respond to your questions or direct your call to someone who can. In the USA and Canada call 1-800-8-SYBASE, option 3 for Customer Service.

Thank you for your cooperation in this product transition. We regret any hardship that discontinuing this product may cause your organization. Our support staff is available to assist you in any way possible.

Sincerely,

Mike Paola
