1. Accessing current release bulletin information

A more recent version of this release bulletin may be available on the Web. To check for critical product or document information added after the release of the product CD, use the Sybase Technical Library Product Manuals Web site.

Accessing release bulletins at the Technical Library Product Manuals Web site

  1. Go to Product Manuals.

  2. Follow the links to the appropriate Sybase product.

  3. Select the Release Bulletins link.

  4. Select the Sybase product version from the Release Bulletins list.

  5. From the list of individual documents, select the link to the release bulletin for your platform. You can either download the PDF version or browse the document online.


2. Product summary

Sybase® HIPAA Transaction Manager is a Java-based facility that splits multiple business documents contained in a single transaction into individual business documents. It takes X12 data as input that is verified to be syntactically correct and splits claims between the ST (Transaction Set Header) and SE (Transaction Set Trailer) into its own correctly formatted business document in a single transaction.

The Java™ 2 SDK, Standard Edition, version 1.4.x is required to run HIPAA Transaction Manager.

Install the J2SDK before installing HIPAA Transaction Manager.

5. Installing HIPAA Transaction Manager

This section includes basic installation instructions for Windows and UNIX operating systems.



Note:

After installing the software, Sybase strongly recommends that you check the online support Web site for software updates. If a software update (EBF) has been released, it contains bug fixes made after this product shipped. Follow the instructions provided with the EBF software update.


5.1 Changing the default temporary directory

Before running the install script, you can override the default location for temporary files to prevent running out of space. The default location is normally /TMP on UNIX and \TEMP on Windows.

Changing the default temporary directory on UNIX

On UNIX, set the environment variable TMPDIR to

setenv TMPDIR xxx

where xxx represents a directory with at least 150MB available.

Changing the default temporary directory on Windows

On Windows:

  1. Navigate to the Control Panel. Start > Settings > Control Panel.

  2. Double click the System tab.

  3. Click the Advanced tab and select Environment Variables.

  4. Scroll through the list until you find the default Temp directory; for example, at C:\WINNT\Temp.

  5. Click Edit and enter a new location.

  6. Click OK.

5.2 Getting write permissions for UNIX users

You must select a directory where you have write privileges. If you plan to install HIPAA Transaction Manager in the default directory, you need to have performed one of the following:

If you try to install to the default directory before performing either step, you will see an error message such as the following:

ERROR: /opt/sybase is not writable

5.3 Installing HIPAA Transaction Manager on Windows

Use these instructions to install HIPAA Transaction Manager in a Windows environment.

To install HIPAA Transaction Manager on Windows:

  1. Insert the installation CD into the drive.

    If Autorun is enabled on your system, Setup will install Sybase HIPAA Transaction Manager automatically. If Autorun is disabled, use Windows Explorer or My Computer to navigate to the directory of your installation CD and double-click Setup.exe.

  2. The installation program starts and the Welcome screen appears. Click Next.

  3. Select the location from which you are performing the installation (for example, United States). Click Next.

  4. The license agreement page appears. Read the license agreement and click Yes to proceed or No to exit the installation.If you don’t find a license agreement that matches your location, or if the license agreement is unreadable on your system, you can read all available license agreements at the Sybase website.

  5. At the next screen, choose the destination location. You can accept the default target directory of C:\Program Files\Sybase\HTM or browse to another directory. Click Next.

  6. The HTM Solution installs and the final screen indicates the installation was successful. Click Finish to exit the wizard and remove the CD from the drive.


If you need to uninstall HIPAA Transaction Manager, follow these steps:

To uninstall HIPAA Transaction Manager on Windows:

  1. Open the Control Panel window: Start > Settings > Control Panel.

  2. Double click Add/Remove Programs.

  3. Select HIPAA Transaction Manager and let the uninstall process run.


5.4 Installing HIPAA Transaction Manager on UNIX

Use these instructions to install HIPAA Transaction Manager on UNIX operating systems.

To install HIPAA Transaction Manager on Solaris, HP-UX or AIX:

  1. Insert the installation CD into the drive.

    If the File Manager starts, issue the install command for your platform:

    • On Solaris: installsun

    • On HP-UX: installhp

    • On AIX: installaix

    Then skip to Step 3. If File Manager does not start continue with Step 2.

    HP-UX users may need to mount the CD. Type:

    mount -F cdfs -o ro,rr /dev/dsk/c3t2d0 /cdrom

    where c3t2d0 is the actual target for the CD-ROM on your machine.

    AIX users may need to mount the CD. Type:

    mount -o ro -v'cdrfs' /dev/cd0 /cdrom

    where cd0 is the actual target for the CD-ROM on your machine.

  2. Use the following commands to start the installation program:

    cd /cdrom/htm_10

    Choose the install program for your operating system. For example, ./installsun on Solaris, ./installhp on HP-UX, and ./installaix on AIX.

  3. The installation program starts and the Welcome screen appears. Click Next.

  4. Select the location from which you are performing the installation (for example, United States). Click Next.

  5. The license agreement page appears. Read the license agreement and click Yes to proceed or No to exit the installation.If you don’t find a license agreement that matches your location, or if the license agreement is unreadable on your system, you can read all available license agreements at the Sybase website.

  6. At the next screen, choose the destination location. You can accept the default target directory of /opt/sybase/htm_10 or browse to another directory. Click Next.

  7. The HTM Solution installs and the final screen indicates the installation was successful. Click Finish to exit the wizard and remove the CD from the drive.


If you need to uninstall HIPAA Transaction Manager, follow these steps:

To uninstall HIPAA Transaction Manager on Solaris, HP-UX or AIX:

  1. Change directories to the /uninstall folder.

  2. Type ./uninstall

  3. InstallShield runs and begins to uninstall HIPAA Transaction Manager.

7. Known problems

This section summarizes known problems and other issues related to this release.

7.1 [CR 345595] Performance when combining claims

Rebundled (merged) output data is not identical to input. Although there may be syntactic variation, semantically the data is the same and is valid.

7.2 [CR 346859] Blank lines after the IEA segment

When a file has more than one blank line after the IEA segment HIPAA Transaction Manager’s split command fails.

To resolve this issue, delete blank spaces.

8. Product compatibilities

For Sybase to support HIPAA Transaction Manager, you need software that filters out transactions that are not structurally compliant. Maps that perform this function will be provided separately, in a future HIPAA Accelerator release. If you need the maps in the interim, contact Sybase Support.



Note:

If you are not a HIPAA Accelerator customer, you may have to provide additional functionality to perform compliance tasks.

Finding the latest information on product certifications

  1. Point your Web browser to Technical Documents.

  2. Select Products from the navigation bar on the left.

  3. Select a product name from the product list and click Go.

  4. Select the Certification Report filter, specify a time frame, and click Go.

  5. Click a Certification Report title to display the report.

10.2 Sybase EBFs and software maintenance

Finding the latest information on EBFs and software maintenance

  1. Point your Web browser to the Sybase Support Page.

  2. Select EBFs/Maintenance. Enter user name and password information, if prompted (for existing Web accounts) or create a new account (a free service).

  3. Select a product.

  4. Specify a time frame and click Go.

  5. Click the Info icon to display the EBF/Maintenance report, or click the product description to download the software.
