"Working at Sybase as my first professional experience was one of the best things that could have happened to me. I must confess that at the beginning it was terrifying but with time I experienced one of the best periods of my life as a person and as a professional.

Getting involved with projects and people here was fairly easy; that’s why suddenly I discovered myself working on projects and knowing things that are really challenging. As a student is really nice to realize the huge world impact of the products that are developed in the company for which you work. I had the good fortune to have the opportunity to work on the Android team and in so doing to be in touch with some of the latest devices and technologies worldwide.

I don’t have anything other than good memories, good experiences and good comments about the company in general. As a Sybase intern I improved my skills and learned a lot of things that I know will be relevant in my future professional life. "
- L. Katherine Baquero, Software Development Intern

"I feel fortunate to have been able to work for Sybase as an intern. When I decided to return to school for my database certificate and IT degree, my priority while taking classes was to gain more experience by working for a database software firm. The intern program at Sybase was a great fit over the last year. I worked with a great crew of experienced co-workers in North American Customer Service. Having the chance to work in customer service, I was exposed to the many issues that our customers are dealing with. This includes being the front-end for technical support and working on non-technical cases from licensing to software downloads to profile changes. It is clear that Sybase holds its employees to a high standard of performance which shows in its continued success in the database and mobile enterprise market."
- Karen Taylor, NAO Customer Service Intern

"For any student who is seeking his/her career path in information management, or high-technology systems, Sybase would be the perfect place to start off the first step. I have not heard of any other internship, where students are actually working at the frontline, interacting directly and aggressively with customers, team members and other members (even outside the U.S.) within the company network. Here at Sybase, Inc., students are given such opportunity and responsibility that they can actually utilize their skills and pursue their goal of learning.

"I find Sybase a great fit for my background, business management and information systems. With my supervisor and team-members' warmest greetings, I could quickly get used to the environment. People are very nice to each other, creating a friendly atmosphere.

"Through my experience in Customer Service and Support department, even though I do not need to be a 'techie' person, I have gained invaluable experience and skills. I learned how to be confident and not panic when facing difficult issues that were beyond my ability. I learned how to be calm and claim my needs while people are trying to push on me. With a small team number of 5 members including myself, I also learned a good lesson of teamwork - helping and covering each other when needed.

"Even though my position has not much to do with technical aspect of the company, people are very willing to share their knowledge with me when I approach to them and ask. Sybase also provides online courses for its employees - where you can study technical aspects and information systems. Currently, I am working my path through a technical career, as I am getting these online trainings and ask people questions when I do not get enough explanation from the self-study. I highly recommend the experience at Sybase to anyone who is especially wishing to gain valuable experience in the technology field, while working in a warm environment with fun and friendly people."
- JaeMin Lee / Customer Service Intern

"This is my first term working as an intern for Sybase and after working here for around two months, now I can say with great confidence that this was the best internship program for me as a marketing major with a strong interest in information technology.

"I've been able to fine tune many skills that will help launch me forward in my career in the business world. I've become a highly organized and efficient businessman after having been thrown right into the thick of it and handed dozens of short-term projects to complete every week. Each of these projects has required me to communicate with a different person each time in order to get to the next phase of the project. This has taught me to communicate with all kinds of employees at all levels. I've had video chats with executives, webinars with industry gurus and conference calls with a whole host of vendors to achieve success.

"Beyond learning all these skills, among others, Sybase has also given me a great opportunity to network with other business people. Everyone here at Sybase, and I mean literally every single person I've had the pleasure of meeting, is friendly, outgoing, and pretty laid back about life in general. Everyone says hello to one another even if they have no idea who you are or what you do all because Sybase has done a great job in creating a fun and engaging environment to work in."
- Paul Kekejian / Marketing Intern

"Little did I know that the summer of 2007 would be a crash course in 'Business Operations 101.' The North America Sales Order Process is like a well oiled machine, giving a student the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have acquired from school in the real world. Each day my general knowledge of the fundamentals of business operations grew deeper in parallel with the experience I obtained from each department.

"The team I work with is a friendly and extremely dedicated team, and when I was given the chance to come back, I quickly jumped. I was given more responsibility and opportunity to grow and knew that the knowledge I had obtained from the past year would be utilized to gain more experience and responsibility. When I started work again, it was evident that I had made the correct decision. The management team is quick to teach me the knowledge they have experienced throughout Sybase's long run.

"Sybase is the perfect sized company for an intern who is willing to learn each day they come to work. It is small enough that there is a real possibility of executives coming to speak to the office about the business' current status or to have lunch with your team, yet it is large enough to be a global competitor in today's economy. I enjoy each day I go to work thanks to Sybase Inc. as a whole, and also on the personal level. The people I have met, along with the experiences and challenges I have encountered have made my internship educationally and personally valuable."
- Megan Strumpfler / Operations Intern

"As a finance intern at Sybase 365, I was able to put a practical perspective on everything that I had been learning in university. The knowledge and real-world application that comes with an internship in the high-tech industry is unlike any experience you can imagine as a student. The people that you meet become friends that last for a lifetime, and the doors that open bring unparalleled opportunities."
- Cody Clark / Finance Intern

"Anybody looking for a fun and challenging internship opportunity should look no further than Sybase. Sybase provided me with the necessary tools and people to help me gain real world experience as a software developer. "

"The projects that I worked on taught me a side of software engineering in a way that college could not have. Working with a large number of people on the same product presents challenges that would not have been possible to encounter in a school environment. Because of this, I gained invaluable experience that can only be beneficial to me as a future software engineer. There is also a great sense of satisfaction knowing that what I do matters and contributes greatly to the success of my team."

"All in all, I had a wonderful work experience at Sybase that left me with nothing but fond memories."
-Tim Lee, Software Development Intern

EMEA

"During the last semester of my marketing studies, I applied for an internship position at Sybase GmbH in Germany. At the time I was hired, I barely knew what a database was and had only worked with MS Excel and Access. It was very obvious that my skill level and knowledge about IT-Software was very small. Sybase provided a hotbed of knowledge, real-life applications, and hands-on experiences that I was seeking.

"Things started to click and make sense just being around the technology and terminology for a few months. I also learned about important day-to-day activities specific to an IT firm, including purchasing media, writing invitations and brochures, planning events and brainstorming ideas.

"Sometimes, the best way to learn is to simply observe. At Sybase I had the opportunity to sit-in on project meetings and see the importance of clear communication and good listening skills in producing successful meetings. Sybase has undoubtedly had a profound positive impact on my personal and professional life. I knew right away that there was no better place to learn than at Sybase."
- Tim Dreger, Marketing Intern

CANADA

"Personally, Sybase has been an exceptional place to work. I have completed both a product support and a software developer term and have returned back once again. The reason I find Sybase to be a great workplace is the atmosphere that you are brought into. Each semester approximately 30 co-op students are hired, so automatically you have colleagues your own age that you can really get to know and have some fun with. However, what I believe puts Sybase over the top, is the fact that each and every full-time staff member treats you as if you were a full-timer, too.

"For example, each semester I've worked at Sybase I have been handed interesting, but difficult projects. This is one thing I strive for because it gives me a great sense of accomplishment when I complete them. From previous work experiences, I hadn't been given that type of challenge or responsibility, which made me feel as if I wasn't part of the team. At Sybase, every task is challenging and rewarding and they are always interested in hearing fresh ideas from co-op students like me."
- Dave Found / Software Developer Co-op

"Working in Sybase has given me the unique opportunity to have a hands-on experience in dealing with software data management. Over the past months I have been responsible for kick starting the iManage program here in Hong Kong. The purpose of this project is to allow users, especially colleagues stationed in other countries, to easily retrieve contracts and sales order packages via a web-based search engine and view them in softcopy format. To be apart of such an innovative project has definitely been rewarding.

Although I only come into the office twice per week, the friendly nature of my colleagues has made me feel apart of the big Sybase family. Thank you to everyone at Sybase Hong Kong!"
- Kevin Cheng, Intern, Sales Order Ops (Finance SSC, Hong Kong)

"It's been a whole month since I entered Sybase. With times flies, I begin to enjoy this place more and more. My colleagues are all very nice and willing to give me a hand when I need help. I know it's not easy for them to spend their own time teaching me because there are hard works waiting for us in a limited project time. I am deeply grateful to their kind hearted and timely assistance. If possible, I really want to work here as a formal worker in future."
- Sally Zhang, Intern, Shanghai Tongji University (Shanghai, China)

"I was glad to join Sybase in Jan 2009. I've only spent two months with Sybase, but I feel that Sybase is a team and everybody will help you if you meet problems. This helps me to work smoothly. I love my team and it gives me a feeling like family."
- Wei-wei Fei, Intern, Shanghai Tongji University (Shanghai, China)

"I have spent more than six months at Sybase as an intern, and all of my teammates and other colleagues are so kind that we are like a big family. We always play ping-pong together, take outdoor sports, etc. I have learned a lot during this period, both in living and working. I am very glad to have the chance to be a 'Sybase'er. Thank you all."
- Fei-teng Chen, Intern, University of Science and Technology of China (Shanghai, China)

"I started as a Sybase intern in January 2008 and become a regular full-time employee in April 2008. In the past one year, I feel the concept of 'One Sybase One Team' deeply, everyone works very hard and shares their experiences frequently, we learn about updated technology and have happy work times here. Outside of work, we play basketball and badminton together. The most important thing is when facing any difficulties our colleagues will give their help and encouragement as soon as possible. It is an honor and nice experience to work for Sybase."
- Yin-dun Shi, S/W Eng – QA, Former Intern (Shanghai, China)

"Adjusting to a brand new environment would not be easy for anyone; however the friendliness from colleagues and the simple yet comfy working ambience made it a totally different experience when I started my internship with Sybase. I almost forget that I am completely new here and even look forward to enjoying this experience everyday. During my time with Sybase, I have had international-standard training with my team members, and on-line courses offered by the company with great concepts. Teams in Sybase always have enormous enthusiastic spirit and passion, and I can always reach out and get help whenever I meet difficulties as a newbie. My days with Sybase have not only brought me challenges, but also development experiences, and for this I will be always truly and heartily thankful to Sybase."
- Ning ZHANG, Intern, Peking University, (Beijing, China)

"I am Yan ZHAO, and I started working in Sybase Xi'an as intern on August 2006, and became a regular full-time employee on April 2008. During my two and a half years of happiness here, I have improved and learned a lot from everyone. In this company, communication with each other is encouraged. Company pays more attention to English training to improve our language ability. Also company has organized team-building activities such as sports plans and team outings to enrich our spare time. I believe our Xian R&D team will flourish more and more in the future."
- Yan ZHAO, S/W Eng – QA, Former Intern, Northwestern Polytechnical University (Xian, China)

"I am very glad to be an intern at Sybase. From the very first day I worked here, I got a knowledgeable, patient, and responsible mentor. All my colleagues are zealous to help me. Each week, we have a staff telephone meeting with engineers from the U.S. We discuss the project problems, brainstorming and then begin the challenge. Each month we also have a team building activity which makes our team a family. What is more important, I learned a lot of knowledge and latest advanced technologies here. I want to say: 'I feel pretty good here!'"
- Nan SHE, Intern, Xian Jiaotong University (Xian, China)

"I am Yan-Ping Shang, a fresh intern at Sybase and a second year postgraduate at Xidian University. The deepest impressions the Sybase team has given me are efficient, friendly and vigorous. I got my first interview notice pretty soon after sending out my CV and the whole process of hiring only lasted for 4 days. All of my colleagues here are friendly and try their best to help me get used to the new environment. I am very happy to work with this hard-working team at Sybase."
- Yan-Ping SHANG, Intern, Xidian University, (Xian, China)

"I think it was really very lucky for me to be assigned to Sybase 365. During the 6 months of my employment with Sybase 365, it has been a fun and fruitful. At Sybase, it was an eye opener for me to be able to see what the IT industry is actually like. I have not only gained valuable work experience which will help in my future career life, but also a big accomplishment in life."
- Tan Ho Yeh, Sybase 365 Intern, Temasek Polytechnic, Informatics & IT School (Singapore)

"This internship has been the best experience of my life. The experiences and lessons I have learned have provided me with an invaluable and unique education which could not be replicated in a classroom. I can honestly say that I have walked away with knowledge and hands on experience that will help me later on in the workforce. Sybase staff did a great job at making sure that I was safe, comfortable and made me feel very welcome. The internship exceeded my expectations, and I am extremely grateful for having being given this golden and rewarding opportunity. I will truly miss this place, especially the people here, but without a doubt the memories will be carried with me forever. Thank you!"

"I had a six-month co-op and when a full-time position became available in the department, I was given the opportunity to interview before others. The chance to show my direct supervisors first hand my work ethic and abilities to achieve sales goals was instrumental in my hiring. This was accomplished through co-op."

"As a University of Waterloo computer science co-op student, Sybase provided an excellent starting point to my career. During my three co-op terms, I worked in technical support on Sybase iAnywhere's SQL Anywhere product and worked alongside three other co-ops on various database and data synchronization issues. The best part about working at Sybase as a co-op student is that you always know you're making a real difference on real problems with real customers. As a Sybase co-op, you're treated as a regular member of the team and are always given a chance to showcase your creativity and talent. I can't recommend the experience enough.

"Coming back to work full time with Sybase after finishing my undergraduate degree was an opportunity that I simply couldn't turn down—the people are warm and friendly, the technology is cutting-edge and the job satisfaction is great. I now work full time in technical support on our Direct Team, which handles all of our corporate customer cases. I enjoy the variety of technical challenges that I get to work on every day.

"Sybase provides an excellent work atmosphere and co-op program with the right mix of challenge, responsibility and fun. Overall, Sybase is a great place to be!"
