Dear Parent:
We realize how important it is not only for a student to make the right choice of a company to work for, but for the parent(s) to feel comfortable with the choice as well. We hope this page will provide you with some valuable information about our commitment to providing student employees with a safe and productive work environment during their assignment with us.
Our student employees play an important role at Sybase and are vital to our success, as they are our potential future leaders. We are committed to supporting their growth and professional development by providing all of the necessary structure, mentoring and training required for the duration of their work assignment. Our students receive supervision from great leaders, are respected members of diverse teams and work on well-defined, real-world projects. They perform team-based, meaningful work that’s related to broader corporate goals, and their hard work is rewarded with an enjoyable work environment and terrific training opportunities.
Security and Safety
We believe all employees should feel confident about their safety and security at work. At Sybase, the security team promotes a secure and physically safe work environment for all employees and visitors. They maintain security practices consistent with the needs of the industry and comply with local regulations. All Sybase facilities are secure and follow a badge access protocol. The security team also maintains a website to inform employees about crime prevention, homeland security alerts, security links and various publications, such as emergency preparedness and personal safety documents. The vision of Sybase is to create a culture where environmentalism, health and safety are second nature. Please be assured that the personal health and safety of each Sybase employee is of primary importance.
Mentoring
In some cases managers will mentor a student directly; in other cases it may be more appropriate to appoint another team member to provide mentorship and day-to-day support during the internship. In either scenario, the mentor will take the time to share experiences and expertise to enhance student’s professional development and growth. They will act as a sounding board for new ideas and guide your student’s interaction with the immediate team and the larger organization as well.
Training and Development
The purpose of new hire training and orientation is to integrate students into the work environment and provide them with the required knowledge and resources to be successful in their new role. Hiring managers take the time to plan department-specific training in advance, and make training and development an ongoing effort throughout the internship.
Student employees also have free access to our online e-learning library which has numerous self-paced classes that can be taken. We believe that if we are successful in building students’ comfort and confidence levels early, the sky is the limit in terms of what they may achieve!
If you have questions or concerns at any time during your child’s assignment at Sybase, please don’t hesitate to contact the University Relations team member he/she has been working with.
Sincerely,
The Sybase University Relations Team
